THE SCIENCE OF COLOUR – WHAT YOUR BATHROOM COULD BE SAYING ABOUT YOU
Posted by Yvette on December 1st, 2011Ask most artists and they’ll tell you that colour is subjective. The same colour can evoke a different response in different people. For example, the colour red for some is synonymous with religious celebration, good fortune and joy, for others red symbolises passion, love, lust and romance.
In design, certain colours are used to induce specific emotions. Though it may be that there are no universally attractive colours, the science of psychology can be applied to the study of colour theory to make predictions about colours to anticipate a mutual reaction.
For most people, a bathroom is a place to relax, wind-down and de-stress- for some, it even becomes their x-factor audition! It then follows that the colour of your bathroom could be a decisive influence on your mood and behaviour.
Here are the messages some of the most commonly used colours give out:
Red – warm colour
Red is a powerful and bold colour choice for design, it is often used to accent design elements. Brighter shades are energetic while darker shades convey power and elegance. If used too much however, it can have an overwhelming effect.
Yellow – warm colour
Yellow is widely considered the brightest and most energising of the warm colours. Bright yellows express happiness and cheerfulness while softer shades give a more calming feeling.
Orange – warm colour
Orange, similarly to the other warm colours is the strongest reflector of energy; because of this orange shades will give out strong feelings of happiness and enthusiasm.
Blue – cool colour
Blue is the only primary colour within the cool spectrum, which means that other colours are created by combining blue with a warm colour (yellow to create shades of green and red for purple shades). The exact shade of blue you select will have a huge impact on how your designs are perceived. Light blues encourage feelings of relaxation and calm while bright blues help to energise and refresh. Darker shades often encourage confidence and self-assurance. If this atmosphere is the type you want your bathroom to enrich, the AquaAmbiance is the shower for you. Being the only shower in the UK to incorporate LED lighting, it’ll enhance the relaxed, and refreshing environment.
Green –cool colour
Being a combination of both blue and yellow, green takes its traits from of these. From its cool colour counterpart green can give off a balancing and harmonising vibe, while brighter greens can be rejuvenating and uplifting.
Purple
Long associated with royalty, purple shades, being a combination of dark blue and red, inspire empowered spirits.
The colour of your bathroom has the potential power to induce and trigger certain emotional responses in you, is your bathroom creating the right atmosphere for you?
